“I started BIPOC TV & Film in 2012 as Colour TV because as a Woman of Colour, I felt isolated in an industry that was predominantly white.
At the time, there were no showrunners of colour in Canada, and no Asian TV writers in senior or mid-level positions. I felt a strong need to connect with other People of Colour who were also feeling marginalized and isolated, so that we could support each other and help each other out. My hope was that as we rise up in the industry, we bring each other along. And that our community of creatives of colour would grow stronger and be a force to be reckoned with.
I believe we each have our own circle of influence where we impact change.
It's happening. We are changing the face of the industry.”
